Duties under the AI Act depend heavily on the role you play. This section details the duties of the provider, deployer, importer and distributor, plus the important Article 25 warning where a deployer takes on all of a provider's duties.
- Provider — the heaviest duties (documentation, conformity, CE marking).
- Deployer — lighter duties; most small companies sit here.
- Importer and distributor — mostly verification duties.
- For high-risk, the deployer has Article 26 duties (oversight, monitoring, logs).
- Article 25: re-branding or substantial modification turns you into a provider.
